Environmental Policy
At Orchard Grove IT, we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously indeed. In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint, all of our electricity comes from renewable energy sources. In fact, one of the things that we are currently investigating is the feasibility of having our own wind-powered generator to offset the energy consumed by our computer systems.
Anything that can be is recycled and we make every effort to reduce our contribution to land-fill to an absolute minimum. This includes making the best possible use of IT assets to minimise our environmental impact by:- refusing to discard perfectly serviceable hardware because it won't run the latest operating system;
- advocating the use of open-source software to extend the useful lifetime of computer hardware by as much as five years;
- taking a pragmatic approach to upgrading hardware and software and only ensuring it happens when it's absolutely necessary;
- ensuring that any "obsolete" equipment is immediately reused, for example to build a web/email/file server.
If you would like more information on how you could make better use of "obsolete" equipment, then please contact us.
